[Image Gallery Updated] Ford India confirms automatic gearbox variant and three engine options for the EcoSport crossover

Ford India has confirmed an automatic gearbox equipped variant of the EcoSport slated to be launched in India very soon. This automatic gearbox equipped EcoSport will come with a 1.5 Liter Ti-VCT petrol engine. The automatic gearbox in question is the 6 speed PowerShift dual clutch unit, a gearbox that’s also found on the new Fiesta Automatic sedan. Notably, India will be the second car market in the world to get the EcoSport equipped with the 6 speed PowerShift dual clutch automatic gearbox. China will be the first market to get the EcoSport PowerShift Automatic as Ford China will launch the crossover in that country on the 19th of March. Notably, the automatic gearbox will be offered only on the 1.5 Liter petrol engined version of the EcoSport. The crossover will be sold with two other engine options: the 1 Liter EcoBoost turbo petrol engine and the 1.5 Liter TDCI turbo diesel engine. Both these engines will get a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. Through the EcoSport, Ford India is also introducing the SYNC in car infotainment system. The EcoSport sold in India will be a front wheel driven version. As of now, Ford has no plans to sell the 4X4 version of this crossover in India.

In a preview of sorts, Ford has put the production versions of the EcoSport on display in not one but two malls in India. The EcoSport is currently on display at Saket City Walk Delhi and the Infinity Mall Mumbai. The crossover will be showcased in these malls until the 17th of March 2013. Over the next few weeks, Ford will showcase the EcoSport in 10 other Indian cities: Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Kochi, Ludhiana, Chennai, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. Meanwhile, here’s a round up of the prominent features on the India-spec EcoSport,
