Ford India to launch more small cars in the Figo’s price range!

The Ford Figo Hatchback has been a tremendous sales success for Ford India, with the hatchback completely turning around the fortunes of the automaker in the Indian market with sales of over 1,00,000 units since its launch. Ford India, which was hitherto known for it’s brilliant-to-drive but expensive to maintain cars, also managed to revamp its image as a car maker that also is capable of producing an inexpensive and frugal hatchback that retains all the brilliance of the Ford Driver DNA.

Now, we have a very interesting comment coming from Ford’s APAC President Mr Joe Hinrich, who has said that most of Ford’s 8 new products will sit in the price range of the Ford Figo. Here’s what Mr Hinrich has had to say.

“Most of our eight products planned for launch by mid-decade would be in the Figo’s range as seventy per cent of car sales in India come from the small car segment.”

 

Ford India plans to launch seven more products by the middle of this decade for the Indian market, asides the just launched all new Ford Fiesta Sedan. Of the 7 products, the Ford Focus Sedan and the Ford Mondeo are strong possibilities for the Indian market.  If a majority of the 7 products sit in Figo territory in terms of price, it would be quite interesting to see the kind of products Ford develops for the Indian market.

Perhaps another small car to slot in just below the Figo Hatchback and a Mini SUV to be around the price tag of the Ford Figo are our guesses. Whatever may be the case, Ford India future product mix looks quite exciting at the moment although we’d like some clarity on what the American automaker actually has in store for the Indian market in light of the recent comments by Mr Hinrich, on the sidelines of Ford’s new manufacturing plant announcement at Sanand, Gujarat.
