Ford India’s dealership bltizkreig: How about 45 new dealerships across India in a single day?

Rumor has it that Ford India will launch into a dealership blitzkrieg of sorts with the automaker all set to appoint 45 new dealers across India on a single day. February 16th, 2012 is the rumored date when Ford India might go on a dealership opening spree across multiple locations within the country to greatly improve its reach. While we are yet to get official confirmation from Ford about this dealership expansion exercise, we are quite sure that Ford can pull something like this off as it has done something very similar in the past.

In 2010, Ford India inaugurated a record 28 dealerships in a single day, a feat that it might better over the next few days. The previous Ford India dealership spree came two years ago, on February 16th in 2010, when Ford inaugurated a whopping 28 dealerships, ahead of the Ford Figo hatchback’s launch. Spurred on by the dealership expansion, the Figo went on to become a resounding success for Ford India, with the hatchback being the largest selling car for Ford, even beating the Hyundai i20 at the hustings in January 2012.

We have a hunch that the new dealership expansion could be something to do with the upcoming 2012 Ford EcoSport Crossover even as the Ford India Marketing Director, Nigel Wark, at the 2012 Auto Expo, smugly remarked that entrepreneurs were lining up to open Ford dealerships after the EcoSport Crossover was showcased in January, 2012. The 2012 EcoSport Crossover is one car that Ford India is heavily betting upon and more dealers to sell this crossover makes a lot of sense as Ford still has some way to go before it has dealerships in every corner of India.
