The EcoSport compact crossover is one of the latest products from the Blue Oval destined for global markets. After making its debut in South American countries like Brazil and Argentina in 2012, the EcoSport is all set to be launched in China and India, two major car markets of the world. While Ford had confirmed that the EcoSport would eventually find its way into car makers in Europe, we now have with us a time frame for the EcoSport’s European debut. Without specifying an exact date or month, John Gardiner, Director for News Operations at Ford Europe has stated that the EcoSport would be launched in Europe in the next 12 months.

So, before 2014, we could have the EcoSport compact crossover rolling onto European streets. The EcoSport sold in Europe is expected to be sold with petrol and diesel engine options. The 1 Liter-3 cylinder EcoBoost turbo petrol engine will be the major petrol engine offering for the European EcoSport while turbo diesel power will be represented by the 1.5 Liter TDCI engine, a motor that is already in Europe through the new Fiesta. Expect the Euro-spec ExoSport to get front wheel drive and all wheel drive options.
With 2014 slated to mark the arrival of the Honda Jazz based compact SUV, the EcoSport’s timing into Europe seems quite apt. The Euro-spec EcoSport is expected to be manufactured at the car maker’s Romanian factory, which also builds the B-Max MPV and the 1.5 Liter Ti-VCT petrol engine. Meanwhile, our readers in India say that they simply cannot get enough of the EcoSport with the buzz around the EcoSport at an all time high in the run up to the launch. While the EcoSport should be on showroom floors in India by the middle of the year, here’s Brazilian TVC of the EcoSport in action.

Led by former aviation executive Alan Mulally, American automaker Ford, has scripted a dramatic comeback, after teetering towards bankruptcy half a decade ago. Mr Mulally led the company to embrace what is known as the One Ford philosophy, a global strategy that allows for platform sharing across many Ford car models. The EcoSport too, is one such car model which is based on the One Ford strategy. The EcoSport is based on Ford’s B-Car platform that it shares with cars like the new Fiesta and the B-Max MPV.
