Just yesterday, we carried a story in which we wondered whether the Ford Figo in hot hatch form was a prime candidate for a small capacity EcoBoost series of petrol engine from Ford. Today, we have a story emerging about Ford indeed planning to produce a 1 liter, three pot EcoBoost engine that will be used to power Ford car models across the globe. Also, the 1 Liter EcoBoost engine has been benchmarked with the current 118 Bhp. 1.6 Liter Ti-VCT Duratec engine that powers the 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan and Hatchback.

So a specific output of over 100 Bhp is what the one liter EcoBoost Engine from Ford seems to be targeting and we love what we hear. Also, at the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford will also announce the range of models that the 1 Liter EcoBoost engine will power. Now, if you’re wondering what EcoBoost technology is all about, let’s make it easy for you. EcoBoost technology involves the combination of direct injection and turbocharging for a trio of benefits. Firstly, a higher fuel economy figure of up to 20% for starters.

Secondly, lower emissions and finally more performance and responsiveness to put a smile on your face every time your right foot goes into get up and go mode. In a nutshell, you will get more power and better mileage from the latest range of EcoBoost engines. According to Ford, the EcoBoost engine, with it’s fuel saving in around three years can recoup the investment in the EcoBoost engine technology by the car buyer while that on diesel and hybrid engines take around 7.5 and 12 years respectively.

Therefore, the EcoBoost technology looks very promising indeed and Ford estimates 90% of it’s product portfolio to shift to the newer range of engines and this will happen across the globe. India, being a very crucial market for Ford will certainly get it’s share of EcoBoost engines in due time. What remains to be seen is which Ford car in India gets the first EcoBoost engine. Like we published yesterday, the Ford Figo Hatchback with the 1 Liter EcoBoost Engine could be a wonderful option that could dramatically change the fortunes of the petrol variant, which gets outsold by the frugal diesel engined variant.
