While much was expected of Maruti, especially in the small car segment, Maruti had more concepts to show for than mainstream car launches. The Maruti Pavilion at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo was one of the best put together stalls with a plethora of zany looking cars vying for attention, especially amongst the younger audiences. First up, we bring you the Suzuki Kizashi saloon which is due for a launch sometime late in 2010. This stylish and muscular saloon will be a serious threat to the Honda Accord-Toyota Camry-Nissan Teana brigade. So, We expect Maruti to price it extremely competitively at a price less than INR 15 Lakhs.

Another concept that was a worthy addition to the Maruti Pavilion was the Maruti RIII MPV concept, conceptualized and executed completely in-house by Maruti Engineers, right here in India. The futuristic looking MPV concept will actually hit the production floor, in a somewhat pared down version sometime in 2011. That said, the RIII MPV concept looks extremely promising which makes it a car to watch out for come 2011.

Apart from these two cars, most other cars displayed at the Maruti Pavilion were design mishmashes with some tastefully done body kits and sticker jobs competing with equally gaudy body jobs. Apart from these body kit treatments, we were more than a little disappointed to not find the new Maruti WagonR, the replacement for the venerable Maruti 800 and even the Suzuki APV that was touted to be a replacement for the Versa. Instead, Maruti unveiled a Versa which looks bog similar to the one that was discontinued. The only saving grace being the fact that the refreshed Versa will be produced with the Ritz’s K-Series 1.2 liter petrol engine with an option of CNG and Electric Power as a fuel option that will help it meet the stringent Bharat Stage IV emission standards. Maruti will price the Versa Eeco at a an extremely competitive price point of about INR 4 Lakhs which will ignite sales and hopefully steer the Versa Eeco away from the debacles it’s previous versions proved to be at the hustings. Meanwhile, here are a snapshots of everything that was displayed at the Maruti Pavilion.
