The future of automobiles lies in hybrid-tech and development in the field of alternative fuels. Car makers from around the world have been investing billions in the research and development of hybrids since many summers now. Porsche’s flagship Panamera grand tourer has been the latest car to get a hybrid heart. The Panamera S Hybrid comes with a 330 bhp supercharged 3.0 litre V6 coupled to an electric motor with 44 horses on tap. Energy is stored in a nickel metal hydride battery that can accelerate the Panamera to 37 mph before the V6 fires up.

Coming to Toyota, which has always been at the forefront of the hybrid-electric powertrain development, the Prius Hybrid was a hit with the masses in the United States of America. So much so that the car became a lifestyle statement with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Sandra Bullock driving one. Now the company is expanding its hybrid powertrain application to the small cars it produces. The Toyota Yaris has been given a hybrid treatment this time. Currently, the car is just a concept but might feature a 1.3 lite or 1.5 litre powerplant once put into production. The concept features 18 inch wheels, a solar-panelled roof to power the air-con, streamlined door handles and door mirrors with built-in cameras.
