Hindustan Motors to launch a seven seater version of the Mitsubishi Outlander!

The Mitsubishi Outlander hasn’t really got the sales charts ticking for Hindustan Motors-Mitsubishi in India. This, as the crossover based on the Lancer platform is available only with a petrol engine. The only other soft roader in India that comes with a petrol engine is the Honda CR-V, which also is turning out to be a sales dud. Add to this the factor of the Outlander featuring only 5 seats but carrying a price tag of 20 Lakh rupees and you have a perfect recipe for a slow seller.

Hindustan Motors however is getting aggressive with its product portfolio expansion plans and hence will launch the 7 seater version of the Mitsubishi Outlander. While other details as to how much more expensive the seven seater version of the Outlander will be when compared to the five seater car, isn’t known at the moment, expect to pay a small additional amount for the 7 seater version of the Crossover.

While the 7 seater version of the Outlander Crossover isn’t any different from the 5 seater version dimensionally, the extra couple of seats behind the middle row will be the only major change. Due to the extra seats, the Outlander will lose out on boot space, and this is the price one has to pay for squeezing in a couple of more people in the car. The extra seats for their part will be very basic and smaller in dimension compared to other full sized seats in the car.

Internationally, the seven seater version of the Outlander commands a premium of about US $1,000. So, a premium of around 50 to 60 thousand rupees should be the price could be what you can expect to pay for the 7 seater Outlander. If Hindustan Motors-Mitsubishi is really serious about selling more Outlander, a diesel engine is a must even as the Outlander sells with a 2.2 Di-D Liter diesel engine available in two states of tune, producing 154 Bhp and 175 Bhp, in international markets.
