Honda’s 2010 Indian Auto Expo plans
While Toyota announced the small car designed specifically for the emerging markets, how could fellow Japanese auto maker, Honda be left behind?
Honda too, will unveil it’s Made-for-India small car at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo. This, definitively is the big story at Honda’s end. And after the Jazz fiasco, Honda we hope, will certainly price it’s small car competitively. Meanwhile, the small car from Honda whose development is already underway, will hit Indian roads sometime during 2011.
The Honda Jazz is certainly a great hatchback, in every sense including the C-segment matching cavernous interiors. The primary factor that is contributing to it’s dismal sales is simply it’s obscenely high price. Indians, being highly value conscious have readily embraced the Hyundai i20 and dumped the Honda Jazz. This has forced Honda to do a rethink and it’s dealers to offer massive discounts.
Now, Honda might just water down the Jazz just a wee little bit and price it lower to revive sales and salvage it from being a perennial under seller. So, a lower priced Honda Jazz is a distinct reality at the 2010 Auto Expo.
The CR-V could see some stiff competition with Volkswagen readying it’s soft roader, the Tiguan for an Indian launch. Honda have gone ahead and given the CR-V interiors some plastic surgery to make it a little more appealing for the high end, soft roader buyers. Honda are calling the face lifted CR-V the Live Up. The Honda CR-V Live Up gets a couple of engine options, the 2 liter and the 2.4 liter petrol engines. Styling too gets a nip here and a tuck there.
A new redesigned grille, a new tailgate design and a sunroof makes the smart CR-V look that bit smarter. Safety is augmented with a G-Con body and six airbags ready to protect you and your family in case of a crash. The interiors receive freshening up with a new beige theme, an LCD display and an integrated stereo system that plays both WMA and MP3 audio. The CR-V too will try to garner eyeballs as well as bookings by adorning the Honda stall at the 2010 Auto Expo.
A concept car that is eagerly anticipated is the Honda CR-Z hybrid sports car. This car will show Honda’s sporty heritage as well as eco-consciousness. While Toyota will launch it’s Prius Hybrid at the 2010 auto Expo, we aren’t too sure about Honda launching or even showcasing their Insight.
Apart from these cars, the other Honda staples namely the All New Honda City and the Honda Accord will share space at the 2010 Auto Expo. The new Honda Civic too will be present in the Honda stall. The Civic Hybrid might make a comeback too given the latest reduction in excise duties for Hybrid cars.
To enliven up proceedings, Honda is bringing in the Asimo robot. This robot built by Honda will wow visitors and is expected to be a major attraction at the Honda stall. Honda will also showcase it’s personal mobility solution and the Segway rival called the U3-X at the Auto Expo. Watch this space for live updates from the upcoming 2010 Indian Auto Expo.
