Honda Accord sedan might not be discontinued in India; New model could be launched by end 2013
Days ago, a rumor emerged about Honda concentrating on its entry level small and mid size car portfolio. The rumor also suggested that the Japanese car brand would not introduce the latest, 8th generation, 2013 Accord luxury sedan in India. Now, we have a reliable source scotching this rumor by stating that Honda will not discontinue the Accord sedan in India and goes on to add that the new 2013 Accord will arrive into the country sometime in the second half of next year. The reliable source in this case is the editor of AutocarIndia, Hormazd Sorabjee.
The all new Honda Accord that will be launched in international later this year comes with revamped styling which makes the car look more sportier than before. The car will be launched in sedan and coupe models internationally, while the Indian car market will have to make do with a sedan version, as has been the case all these years. In India. Honda has sold three generations of the Accord and the latest model when/if launched, will be the fourth generation model. Globally though, the 2013 Accord sedan represents the 8th generation of the ultra successful car model, which has been a best seller for Honda across the world.
The new 2013 Accord comes with more fuel efficient petrol engines with Honda finally embracing the direct injection technology, which saves fuel and cuts down on emission levels while also improving power and torque due to better combustion characteristics. Though a technological powerhouse, Honda has been lagging behind rivals like Hyundai and Ford when it comes to introducing cutting edge engine technologies on its cars for quite a few years now. Apart from the VTEC variable valve technology, which in its latest iteration is called the i-VTEC, Honda has not been quick with direct injection or turbocharging, two features that are increasingly being found in modern day petrol engines.
With the 2013 Accord getting direct injection, expect the technology to filter down to other Honda car models as well. The 2013 Honda Accord is available with two petrol engines, a 2.4 i-VTEC inline four unit and a 3.5 Liter V6 unit. The engines are available with a CVT automatic gearbox and a 6 speed manual gearbox. For Europe, Honda also has a 2.2 Liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine to be fitted into the 2013 Accord. The 2013 Accord comes with a long list of creature comforts and safety features, along with a brand new dashboard.
