Rumor: Honda Brio Sedan to challenge the Toyota Etios in 2013?

2013 Honda Brio Sedan Speculative Render

2013 Honda Brio Sedan Speculative Render

Ever since the Honda Brio Hatchback concept was unveiled by Honda at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo, there has been talk of a sedan joining the Brio at a later date. The later date it seems could be sometime in 2013 when Honda might unveil the Honda Brio Sedan to take on the likes of the Toyota Etios and the Maruti Swift Dzire.

Apart from a few images floating around on the interweb, not many details of the Honda Brio Sedan seem to be available at the moment. That said, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see the same 1.2 Liter 90 Bhp i-Vtec engine of the Brio hatchback doing duty in the Brio Sedan as this engine, on the Jazz hatchback has demonstrated enough muster for most purposes.

That said, a small capacity diesel engine in the Honda Brio Sedan could just be what the doctor ordered if indeed Honda is serious about selling plenty of cars in India as petrol in 2013 could have hit the INR 80 mark or perhaps more if the recent climb in petrol prices seem to be of any indication.

All said and done, it looks like Honda is pretty serious about selling more cars in emerging markets like India and Thailand from the current murmurs we’re hearing about the Brio Sedan. Pricing, however will remain the key in India where Honda has slowly been slipping behind it’s rivals as car buyers have begun questioning the premium pricing for Hondas with other auto makers offering similar quality and more equipment levels at lesser prices.

I would suggest just change the name and a few cosmetics in fornt and back – for jazz – reduce the price to match the new fabia / polo and that will do the timebeing damage control. then as a step two introduce a diesel in that.. This will be one of the best salvos Honda can do and do some good to it’s dealers.
