The Great Indian Car Market seems to have finally convinced Honda that value pricing along with the usual stellar Honda quality are the biggest things that can get it going in the Indian market. After the Jazz debacle and falling sales all across it’s model portfolio save for the all new Honda City, Honda SIEL finally seems to have woken up and smelt some good old Indian coffee.
So, the Honda Small Car Concept that Honda aims to debut in the Indian market sometime in 2011-12 will see plenty of localization, of up to 80%, to drive costs down and make replacing and repairing parts much cheaper.
Also, Honda’s Vice President of Marketing, Jnaneswar Sen has come out in the open and announced that Honda SIEL will target volumes rather than position the new Honda Small Car Concept as a premium B segment small car. This move from Honda comes as a major departure from their earlier plans of positioning the small car in the premium segment and also as a pleasant surprise as Honda SIEL will now target a competitive price of under INR 5 Lakh for the Honda Small Car Concept.
Finally, it seems that Honda SIEL is really taking it’s lessons seriously and is all set to turn a new leaf with the Honda Small Car Concept. We wish them luck.
