Hyundai Eon LPG hatchback production kickstarted!

The Hyundai Eon LPG hatchback has been spotted doing the testing rounds for a while now and 2012 is when the South Korean automaker Hyundai was scheduled to launch this model. The Eon LPG is a car that makes a lot of sense for the Indian market, especially at a time when petrol prices have shot through the roof. Hyundai has commenced production of the Eon LPG at its Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai and the commercial launch of this car is just around the corner.

In addition to the LPG option, the Eon LPG will also feature a petrol tank, making the Eon a dual fuel car, like the other dual fuel small cars in India. This means that you can switch between LPG and petrol modes through a switch provided on the dashboard of the car. This also means that the Eon can be used in places where there are no LPG stations also as the driver can select petrol mode in the event of LPG not being available.

The Hyundai Eon LPG could be showcased at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. The Eon LPG is expected to be a big volumes generator for Hyundai as petrol cars face an increasingly difficult future in India due to the wide gap between petrol and diesel prices, with the latter being much cheaper than the former. The Eon LPG could be priced at around 20-30 thousand rupees higher than the petrol variant.

With that, the Hyundai Eon will become the third Hyundai small car in India to feature an LPG dual fuel option, following the likes of the Hyundai Santro Xing LPG and the Hyundai i10 BlueDrive.
