ICB Exclusive: Jaguar begins CKD assembly of the XF 3.0 Turbo Diesel Sedan; Bookings open

Team ICB’s roving eye in the sky, EarthFusion, reports that Tata Motors owned British luxury and sportscar brand Jaguar has begun assembly of the XF sedan in India. The XF sedan is being assembled through CKD kits at the former Tata Motors-Mercedes Benz production facility at Chikli, off Pune, which has now been converted for producing Jaguar and Land Rover models. Incidentally, the diesel powered Jaguar XF luxury sedan is the second JLR model to roll out of Chikli, with the first one being the Land Rover Freelander2 SUV. Along with the CKD assembly, prices of the Jaguar XF Diesel has seen a reduction.

The 2012 Jaguar XF Diesel sedan is now available at a price of INR 48.37 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, which puts it within striking distance of the top end BMW 5 Series diesel model in the form of the 530d variant. So, CKD assembly has indeed made the Jaguar XF diesel sedan extremely price competitive and expected to see more of this stylish luxury sedan on Indian streets in the coming months. Team ICB’s EarthFusion reports that Jaguar-Land Rover dealers across the country have already began accepting bookings with the deliveries scheduled for the first week of December 2012.

The XF diesel sedan is powered by a 3 Liter, V6 turbo diesel engine that churns out 273 Bhp of peak power and a heady 600 Nm of peak torque. This power and torque is transmitted to the rear wheels of the Jaguar XF through an 6 speed automatic transmission. The Jaguar XF with the 3 Liter, V6 diesel engine can hit a top speed of 250 Kph with the 0-100 Kph sprint coming up in a sportscar like 6.4 seconds. These figures make the Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel one of the fastest diesel luxury sedans in the country.  Jaguar claims an equally impressive fuel economy number of 13.5 Kmpl for this car.

Also, the car comes with impressive levels of equipment when it comes to safety features and creature comforts including the infotainment options. In the coming months, Jaguar will launch another diesel engined model of the XF sedan, which will also be assembled in India. That sedan will feature a 2.2 Liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine and will take on the likes of the BMW 5 Series, the Audi A6 and the Mercedes Benz E-Class sedans as Jaguar’s cut price offering. This turbo diesel engine is already being used on the likes of the Land Rover Freelander2 and the Range Rover Evoque. The 2.2 Liter turbo diesel engine on the XF sedan will produce a peak power of 190 Bhp while peak torque is rated at 420 Nm. This engine is expected to be mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox. Expect an ex-showroom price of under 40 lakhs for the Jaguar XF 2.2 diesel sedan. That should allow Jaguar to give the Teuton trio a stiff challenge.
