Team ICB’s roving eye in the sky, Earth Fusion, is back again. Tata Motors is finalizing a CR4 variant of Indica Vista and is expected to roll the new variant out in the coming months. Currently Indica Vista comes with 2 diesel engine options. The base model comes with a TDI engine and other models are powered by Fiat’s Multijet engine.
Tata Motors going to replace the TDI motor with CR4 in order to have a more fuel efficient, entry level variant of the Vista hatchback in the Indian car market. Also, the TDI motor is BS3 compliant, whereas the CR4 is capable of meeting BS4 norms satisfactorily.
The Indica eV2 was the first car to get the CR4 engine, thus making it India’s most fuel efficient diesel car, with an ARAI rated fuel economy figure of 25kmpl. The 1.4 liter CR4, common rail turbo diesel motor will output 70 bhp and 140Nm. While these figures are not very much different from those of the TDI motor, the CR4 mill is a more refined unit.
Like the TDI engine, the CR4 diesel motor will be available on the base model of Vista. On higher variant, the Indica Vista features the Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine in two states of tune. One engine (with the fixed geometry turbo charger) does 75 Bhp-190 Nm while the other (with a variable geometry turbocharger) is good for 90 Bhp-200 Nm.
The higher powered variant of the Vista is aimed at people looking for a sporty hatchback at an attractive price tag. On the other hand, the CR4 engined Vista will be aimed at people who want a spacious hatchback that delivers good fuel efficient, and one that is affordably priced.
The Vista is also available with two petrol engine options, a 1.2 liter-65 Bhp unit and a 1.4 Liter-90 Bhp unit. All engines of the Tata Vista come with 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard.
