A hot selling global car model for General Motors, the Chevrolet Cruze, will see its replacement arriving in late 2014. The 2015 Chevrolet Cruze will be based on the new D2XX platform that General Motors is said to be developing. The D2XX platform is expected to be General Motors’ answer to Volkswagen MQB platform. The D2XX platform will allow parts and platform sharing between multiple cars and car brands in General Motors’ global portfolio. The car maker is expected to build no less than 2 million cars on the D2XX platform by 2016 and that should give you an inkling as to how bullish GM is about the D2XX platform.
Next Generation 2015 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan Render
Coming to the 2015 Cruze, the car will see a complete redesign in terms of design. The car will feature revamped front and rear ends while the profile of the car will also see a change. The new platform is expected to make the Cruze slightly bigger than the current model. More space on the interiors and a larger boot are the two improvements that the 2015 Cruze is expected to come with. The car is also expected to be more fuel efficient than ever before with tweaked turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines. Both manual and automatic transmission options are expected to be made available in the 2015 Cruze.
As is the case with the current model, the 2015 Cruze is expected to be made available in three body styles: hatchback, sedan and station wagon. While the global unveil of the 2015 Cruze is expected to happen at the end of next year, expect the Cruze sedan to arrive into India in 2015. The Cruze has been a decent seller for General Motors India, with the car consistently doing an average of 200 units every month. The Cruze sold in India is available only in diesel engined guise. It remains to be seen whether this approach will be carried over to the new model as well. Currently, the Cruze is built at General Motors India’s Halol factory at Gujarat through the completely knocked down(CKD) kit route. Expect this to continue with the 2015 model as well.
