ICB renders the Ford EcoSport Crossover!
One of the hottest product that will be showcased at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo is Ford’s latest crossover based on the Fiesta platform. This crossover is hotly anticipated by Indian car buyers as it has the potential to spawn an all new segment, a segment which could only get more and more crowded in the coming months. Our roving eye in the sky, EarthFusion, has gone ahead and rendered not one but two renders of the exciting new Ford EcoSport Crossover, days before the official unveil.
If the brand new Ford EcoSport Crossover isn’t exciting enough, what excites us more is the choice of engines it could come with. While the 1.5 Liter TDCI turbodiesel engine could be the volumes puller, Ford India might give us a superb engine choice in the form of a 1 Liter EcoBoost unit that combines turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing to be both powerful as well as highly fuel efficient.
Direct injection, turbo petrol engines are the future of petrol engine technology and with Ford probably readying up to give India a taste of this technology in a mass market, volume car, these engines could become the norm in the coming years. So, the EcoSport has the potential of being a harbinger of sorts, of new petrol engine technology for the Indian car market. The interiors of the EcoSport might be based on the all new Fiesta.
The EcoSport also might be priced quite competitively if Ford manages to meet the sub 4 meter length requirement that the Indian government mandates for an excise duty concession. The Renault Duster SUV, which will be launched in the middle of 2012 is expected to be the major competition for the EcoSport Crossover. Ford has a big conference scheduled on the 4th of January, 2012, where details about the EcoSport might be revealed and then some more. Watch this space.
