French automaker Peugeot will arrive into India later this year and begin selling it’s 508 Sedan and it’s 3009 MPV. While it still remains unclear as to where exactly Peugeot will set up it’s Indian manufacturing facility, the French automaker has just pulled the wraps of the Peugeot 508 Sedan in China.
This car which will sit in the D-Segment rivaling the likes of the Honda Accord and the Skoda Superb, will mark Peugeot’s re-entry into the Indian market after the botched joint venture it had with Premier Automobiles Limited in the nineties. As expected from a D-Segmenter, the 508 Sedan is expected to feature high end creature comforts to pamper it’s occupants.
The distinctive looking car will be brought into India as a completely built unit(CBU) and could feature both petrol and diesel engines. Globally, the 508 Sedan sells with the a range of petrol and diesel options. We expect the Indian model to arrive with a 1.6 liter turbo petrol producing 156 Bhp and a 2 liter CRDI Diesel producing 140 Bhp.
These engines could feature both a six speed manual and an automatic gearbox. All said, what would be crucial is the pricing of the Peugeot 508 as the Skoda Superb continues to flog the Honda Accord month after month at the hustings, due to the Superb’s value pricing. Similarly, Peugeot too could grab market share quickly if it does come with a value price tag and a diesel engine right from the outset.
