South American nation Argentina has become the first car market in the world to get the diesel engined version of the 2013 Ford EcoSport compact crossover. The diesel powered EcoSport that has been launched in Argentina complements the petrol engine variants of the crossover that have been on sale in that country for the past few months. The  EcoSport sold in Argentina is now available with two petrol engine options and one diesel engine options. Both petrol engines are naturally aspirated-4 cylinder motors and come in 1.6 Liter and 2 Liter displacements.

The diesel engine is a 1.5 Liter TDCI unit and this common rail turbo diesel motor that uses a fixed geometry turbocharger and a 8 valve/SOHC head pumps out a peak power of 90 Bhp at 3,750 rpm while the peak torque of 205 Nm is generated between 1,750 rpm and 2,000 rpm. The diesel engined EcoSport sold in Argentina uses a front wheel drive layout and comes with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The 2013 Ford EcoSport Diesel Crossover that will be launched in India in a few months is expected to feature an identical specification.

The EcoSport Diesel sold in Argentina is available in two variants: S and SE. Both variants come with ABS, Ford SYNC Infotainment System and an electric power steering as standard. While the S variant of the EcoSport is priced at 141,120 Argentinian Pesos while the SE version comes in at 146,170 Argentinian Pesos. These prices when translated into Indian rupees convert to 14.99 lakhs and 15.46 lakhs respectively. In India though, the EcoSport’s price is expected to be much lower than in Argentina. The EcoSport that’ll be sold in India is said to come with a high level of localization to keep costs low.

In fact, rumours swirling around the interweb suggest a sub 6 lakh rupee price tag for the entry level variant of the 1 Liter-3 cylinder EcoBoost turbo petrol engined EcoSport. If the pricing of the petrol model of the EcoSport is anything to go by, the diesel EcoSport’s entry level variant could be priced at about 7 lakh rupees. Ford India will offer the EcoSport with petrol and diesel engine variants. The crossover will get a five speed manual gearbox as standard while the 1.5 Liter Ti-CVT petrol engined version will get a 6 speed dual clutch PowerShift automatic gearbox.

      Dear Ketan,

We understand your frustration since Ford India remains mum about the launch date. However, June is expected to be the month when the EcoSport is finally launched in India.

      Cheers,

      Jay

Poor Marketing Strategy by FORD. In India, You can not have campaign without declaring Pricing. People who have waited are drifting to Duster. A bird in hand is better than two in bushes.

drive quality n suspension of the duster is far above my expectation , specially of 110 bhp 6 gear , i have 1 duster 110 bhp with 17 inch alloys , mind it buddy , its pick up, mileage , ride quality is far better than ecosport, where as ecosport is only n only 90 bhp , with 5 gears , no competion at all
