India bound 2013 Jaguar F-Type sportscar to debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show
Tata Motors owned English sports and luxury car maker Jaguar will unveil the much awaited 2013 F-Type sportscar at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, which is just a few days away. The 2013 F-Type sportscar will be based on the C-X16 concept that Jaguar showcased a while ago. Jaguar will position the F-Type sportscar under the top of the line XKR model as a less expensive, high performance model in its line up. The 2013 F-Type will be launched in India as well sometime next year and will be available in both coupe and convertible form.
The F-Type sportscar will be rear wheel driven with the 8 speed automatic transmission that most Jaguar cars now feature, as standard. The 3 liter V6, supercharged engine will be available in two states of tune, 335 Bhp and 375 Bhp while the 5 Liter, V8 supercharged engine will power the top end version and is expected to put out about 450 Bhp, which will ensure that the F-Type sits under the XKR line of sportscars. The engine will get a start-stop system as standard to save fuel under city traffic conditions. The sportcar will feature a full aluminum monocoque chassis to keep weight low.
The low weight is expected to endow the F-Type sportscar with some very spirited performance, with a top speed touted to be about 270 Kph with a sub-5 second 0-100 Kph sprint. With the F-Type sportscar, Jaguar will target the likes of the Porsche Cayman and the Mercedes Benz SL. Under the ownership of Tata Motors, Jaguar-Land Rover has been infused with a war chest of over a billion US dollars, for new product development. This cash infusion has meant that Jaguar can now come up with a range of products to rival the Teuton trio of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz.
In the coming years, expect a range of new products, in the high end sports and luxury car segments along with entry level cars too. The new range of cars that Jaguar will produce in the coming years will have high fuel economy as a major area of focus for the British marquee and the overall aim is to have a presence in every segment of the luxury and sportscar business that its rivals operate in.
