The Toyota Fortuner is the best selling luxury SUV in the 20 lakh rupee class in India, running rings around the competition. The SUV continues to command a waiting period even as Toyota struggles to meet the demand for this big and butch SUV, known for its imposing stance and massive street presence. In 2012, Toyota launched the facelifted version of the Fortuner, replete with brand new styling and new variants. Back then, Toyota added a 4 speed automatic gearbox and a 4X2 drive version. This move allowed Toyota to expand choice for the Fortuner buyer by having an entry level variant.

Now though, the Japanese car behemoth has given the 2013 model of the Fortuner Automatic SUV some more appeal in the form of a 5 speed automatic transmission. The new five speed automatic gearbox is expected to result in a more seamless spread of torque delivery from the 3 Liter turbo diesel motor. Also, the additional ratio is expected to boost fuel economy on the highway. So, expect the Fortuner equipped with the 5 speed automatic gearbox to be faster and more fuel efficient than before. The 2013 Toyota Fortuner with the 5 speed automatic gearbox will continue to be sold with the tried and tested 3 Liter-4 cylinder D-4D turbo diesel engine good for 170 Bhp of peak power and 343 Nm of peak torque.
Those who prefer manual gearboxes will continue to have the option of specifying the 2013 Fortuner with the 5 speed manual gearbox. The Toyota Fortuner will continue to be offered in 4X2 and 4X4 variants. Late last year, Toyota launched the TRD Sportivo body kit equipped Fortuner SUV. The body kit equipped Fortuner has seen big demand and in view of this, the car maker has now decided to retain the TRD Sportivo body kit edition of the SUV as a standard fixture on its variant list. With the addition of the 5 speed automatic gearbox to the 2013 Fortuner range, the SUV is now available in five variants, 4X2 AT, 4X2 AT with TRD Sportivo kit, 4X2 Manual, 4X4 Manual, 4X4 Manual with TRD Sportivo.
