India-bound, production ready Audi A3 sedan coming to 2012 Geneva Motor show
2012 Audi A3 Sedan
As we know, Audi might come with an all new entry-level sedan for India. The car which is on cards is the Audi A3 sedan. The A3 sedan will take on the Mercedes-Benz B-Class. That said, Audi could price the new sedan at around 20 lakh rupees which does make it a very attractive proposition. Also, being sedan rather than a hatchback, this might give Audi an advantage over Mercedes-Benz.
Until now, we have seen the A3 sedan in its concept form. According to Auto Motor und Sport, we will see the production ready Audi A3 sedan at the 2012 Geneva Motor show. The annual motor show will also be host to the next generation A3 hatchback. That apart, BMW is treading carefully and will launch the Mini brand in India. We think, this move by BMW seems to be the better bet as the market for premium hatchbacks in India is comparatively small.

Mercedes-Benz though, are probably going ahead with their plans to introduce the B-Class hatchback in India. Also, the car maker plans to bring the GLK to take on the BMW X1 while Audi is almost ready with the Q3. Out of the three German car brands, Audi does have a fat chance to take charge of the proceedings in the entry level premium segment with the Audi A3 sedan. It would certainly prove to be a good option for the Honda Accord and the Skoda Superb.
The Audi A3 sedan is based on the VW Group’s MQB modular platform. The new platform will form the basis for the next generation three-door hatchback and sportback model. It is highly unlikely that the sportback or the hatchback will make its way in to India.
