India’s first supercar, the DC Avanti will hit roads only in 2013!
A highly affordable price tag, for a supercar that is, and a sleek low slung design meant that plenty of moneyed Indians got very interested in India’s first supercar, the DC Avanti, as it was unveiled to a rapturous ovation by Bollywood actor Amitabh Bacchan at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. Now that the initial euphoria and exuberance around the car has subsided along with the curtains falling on the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, our sources tell us that the DC Avanti Supercar is atleast a year away from commercial production. So, it won’t be before 2013 when you can actually drive the DC Avanti on Indian roads.
We’re carrying this story as a number of our readers have expressed interest on when the Avanti will actually be available for buying. When it comes to the looks, the DC Avanti supercar has it all covered. A super low slung form factor with plenty of exotic design thrown in for additional effect, the car looks every bit supercar with a mean and edgy stance up front. LED headlamps only add to the effect. The DC Avanti, in true supercar tradition is a two seater with twin doors. The compact form encloses a mid engine design, a-la-Audi R8, a car with which the Avanti seems to share a lot of similarities.
In the engine department, the DC Avanti will play host to a Ford EcoBoost turbo petrol unit, good for 240 Bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque. This engine uses variable valve timing and direct injection in addition to turbocharging. The engine will be mated to a six speed manual transmission, while a dual clutch 6 speed automatic tranny is said to arrive a while later. The car, which weighs 1,560 kilograms will get SRS airbags and ABS as standard safety features. The DC Avanti’s price of INR 30 lakhs, is the most alluring factor that is expected to deliver good volumes for this car.
