Jaguar India launches 2012 XKR Special Edition coupe and convertible sports car priced at INR 1.27 crore ex-showroom Mumbai

Tata Motors owned British luxury and sportscar marquee Jaguar has launched a special edition version of the XKR sportscar. The 2012 XKR Special Edition sportscar will be available in both coupe as well as convertible form. The 2012 XKR is a flagship sportscar in the Jaguar car range and sits right at the top of the model line up. The car will be imported into India through the completely built unit(CBU) route and is now available for order. The main difference between the Special Edition(SE) and normal versions of the XKR coupe and convertible is that the SE versions come with more luxurious interiors.

The engine remains the 5 Liter V8 supercharged unit that outputs 510 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm while the peak torque of 625 Nm arrives from 2,500 rpm all the way up to 5,500 rpm. The technology packed engine is built out of aluminum and comes with a spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) along with dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT).  This engine is mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission which have paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Befitting its sporty appeal, the XKR sprints from nought to hundred Kph in 4.6 seconds, with a heady top speed of well over 250 Kph.

Coming to the various changes in the interiors of the car that gives the XKR its Special Edition status, here is what is different in the SE model.

  • New ‘Artisan’ interiors utilise sumptuous scraffito grain leather on the seats, instrument binnacle, door and rear quarter casings, and Poltrona Frau® leather headlinings

  • Jaguar Design team-specified new interior colour way available in –Shadow Walnut

  • 16×16 way heated Performance front seats, a 525W Bowers & Wilkins sound system, unique treadplates and stainless steel pedals are all standard

  • Exterior paint palette includes Celestial Black – exclusive to the XK range in Special Edition form – and a new 20-inch wheel polished alloy design
Coming to the trick bits, the Jaguar XKR Special Edition models get Active Differential Control technology which vectors torque to the rear wheel with the maximum grip through a clutch system, as the XKR, like all Jaguars, is rear wheel driven.  ABS, EBD, Airbags and Electronic Stability Control are the standard safety features on this car. The Jaguar XKR also comes with a Adaptive Dynamics system that adjusts damping according to real time road conditions in the real time for the sportiest handling possible with no loss in ride quality.
