Yesterday, we brought you a story about Tata Motors readying up a WagonR rival, which featured a tall boy design and a lot more space in the interior than even the current segment topper, the Tata Indica. Today, we’re back with some more buzz about the Tata Dolphin project. Our source has confirmed the look and shape of the car to be very similar to the images that we carried yesterday.

While real world images eludes us due to the high secrecy of the project, what we can confirm is that the final car’s looks will be very close to the image we are carrying on ICB today. Apart from the confirmation that this car is indeed the Dolphin project from Tata Motors, a few more juicy details have emerged, especially about the engine of the Dolphin.

The car will feature both petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol engine’s specs remain unknown at the moment, the diesel engine is a three cylinder, turbocharged CRDI engine. The engine displaces 800cc but is not the same engine that will be found on the Tata Nano Diesel. While the Tata Nano Diesel’s engine is based on the Tata Ace, the Tata Dolphin’s engine could be based on the Tata Indica’s CRDI engine.

Alternatively, it could be a brand new engine developed by Tata Motors while our source maintains that the engine looked strikingly similar to that of the Indica’s CRDI Diesel engine. So, that would make the Dolphin sit bang in the Alto territory and help in big volumes for Tata Motors as it will come with the all important diesel engine. For now, these are the juicy details we’ve managed to glean out. Stay glued to ICB as we’ll try to bring in more information about Tata’s Dolphin project in the days to come.
