Land Rover’s new Freelander 2 SUV is now available at an introductory price of Rs 33.88 lakh! The Freelander 2 is the smallest SUV from the Land Rover Range. The baby Land Rover first came to India as a completely built unit now though, Tata Motors who own the Land Rover brand have started assembling the vehicle locally through CKD kits imported into the country. The latest move as resulted in a price drop which has made the Freelander 2 a very attractive buy.
The base price of the Freelander 2 has dropped to Rs 33.88 lakh due to the lower import duty on the CKD kits. Still, the Freelander is way cheaper than the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5 which are its closest rivals. Both the German cars are priced at over Rs 40 lakh. Also, the Freelander comes with Land Rover’s ‘Terrain Response system’ and four wheel drive which, their cars are known for across the globe.

The Freelander 2 is powered by a 2.2 litre four cylinder diesel engine that is mounted transversely. The SUV can be ordered with either a 150 PS or 190 PS engine tunes. Torque value from both tune states is similar at 420 Nm which is achieved at as low as 1750 rpm. Automatic transmission is standard on both models. Other features on the Freelander 2 include cruise control, the audio system and handsfree telephone operation, standard navigation system, with a Touch-screen.
The Freelander offers a well built interior and raised driving position giving the driver a better view out. The understated looks of the Freelander is something unique to the Land Rover family. This unique design has made Land Rovers more stately than being to brash on the eye. The interior, on the other hand has been finished in high-quality leather and well-appointed dashboard.
