Launched in India: 2011 Volvo S60 Sedan starting from INR 27 Lakhs!
We’re typing it even as the Volvo S60 Sedan is being unveiled at Hotel Grand Maratha in Mumbai. And the details of the S60 Sedan from the launch is pretty much consistent with what we’ve published on ICB thus far. First up, the Volvo S60 is a sharpish looking sedan, much more exciting than any Volvo we’ve ever seen before and this car will be Volvo’s brad and butter offering. In other words, Volvo aims to really move volumes in the Indian car market with the Volvo S60 Sedan.
Two engine options are on offer, the Inline six, twin turbo petrol producing 302 Bhp -440 Nm and the T5 five pot CRDI Diesel, good for 205 Bhp of power and 420 Nm of torque. Coming to what Volvo is really known for, the safety department, you get a raft of technology that will make crashing this car well, nigh, impossible. Jokes apart, here’s what the S60 Sedan features on the safety front.
You get a radar and camera based pedestrian detection technology, laser assisted auto braking, adaptive cruise control, traction and advanced stability control, a host of airbags including side curtain airbags, emergency brake assist, front parking camera with 178 degree assist and cornering torque control. Now, that is a real load of safety features unmatched by the S60′s rivals, namely the BMW 3 Series Sedan, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes Benz C Class.
The interiors look very good too. Dual tone color coding predominates with seats that look very inviting and sporty. In-car entertainment options is through a seven inch DVD screen up front with bluetooth audio streaming. USB and iPod connectivity is standard. A GPS based Satellite navigation is also standard piece of kit. The Volvo S60 will come in two variants for the diesel engine and one for the petrol engine.
Here’s what Volvo India hopes will kill competition, the pricing. The base Kinetic diesel version will sell for INR 27 Lakhs, and if you’ve been reading ICB, you’ll remember that we got you the pricing, long ago. The top end Summum diesel will go for INR 32 Lakh. The petrol though priced at INR 34 Lakhs is still a value buy with all that safety kit and BMW 330i killing performance. Volvo is talking about a six point five second 0-100 kph which is phenomenal to say the least.
Transmission options include five speed manual/Autobox for the diesel and a six speed automatic for the petrol version. Meanwhile, only the petrol gets the delicious 18 inchers while the diesel has to make do with 17 inch alloy wheels. That, is basically a round up of the just-launched 2011 Volvo S60 Sedan.
