Mahindra confirms a Pre-Diwali 2012 launch for the Mini Xylo compact MPV!

On the sidelines of the facelifted 2012 Mahindra Xylo MPV launch, an important announcement was made regarding one of the most awaited products from the Mahindra stable, the 2012 Mini Xylo compact MPV. The 2012 Mahindra Mini Xylo Compact MPV will be launched in India later this year, just before the Indian festive season of Diwali. The Mahindra Mini Xylo compact MPV will compete with the Indian B-segment hatchbacks and will measure under 4 meters in length, to make best use of the Indian government’s excise duty reduction for cars measuring under 4 meters in length.

Mahindra is expected to pass on the gains of the lower excise duty to customers, thus delivering the Mini Xylo MPV at a very attractive price point. The 2012 Mini Xylo is expected to be powered by a downsized 1.5 liter common rail turbo diesel engine derived from the 2.2 Liter mHawk common rail diesel engine of the Mahindra Scorpio. A petrol variant of the Mini Xylo is also likely though not yet confirmed by Mahindra. The petrol engine is expected to displace 1,200cc in a three cylinder layout. The Mini Xylo will come with a seating capacity for 7 adults.

A five seater version will also be launched as a top end model. The top end variants of the Mini Xylo is expected to be loaded with safety features like airbags, ABS and EBD as the Mini Xylo is targeted at the B+ hatchback market, where such safety features have now become common place, with customers increasingly opting for the fully loaded top end models. The Mini Xylo’s launch will be preceded by the Mahindra Reva NXR all electric car, which is slated to debut in the next couple of months. A seating capacity for four adults, a 160 Kms range and a 100+ Kph top speed are the few notable features of the new Reva NXR all electric hatchback.
