The latest merger of Ssangyong of Korea with Mahindra & Mahindra will see two new SUV’s coming to Indian shores soon. Mahindra is all set to launch the Ssangyong Motor’s Korando C and Rexton SUV’s in India by early next year. Accroding to a senior Mahindra executive, the SUVs will debut in the country in the first half of 2012.

“Our timeline (for the rollout) is about one year from now. We’re currently completing market research on India. We are also designing the assembly line and overall business plan,” Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive & Farm Equipment sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd told Reuters.

Ssangyong cars will be manufactured at the Mahindra plant at Chakan near Pune. A new assembly line will be installed to manufacture the Korean SUV’s. The Indian automaker has completed all formalities related to the acquisition of a majority stake in Ssangyong. When asked about the sales targets the company has set for the Korean SUV’s, the company officials denied to disclose their expectations and targets when the SUV’s go on sale in India, early next year.
