Mahindra launches hard top van version of the Maxximo at a price of INR 3.7 lakhs ex-showroom Ahmedabad
Indian car and utility vehicle major Mahindra &Mahindra has now launched a hard top version of the Maxximo Mini Van. The hard top version of the Maxximo Mini Van features a monocoque body and comes with the same twin cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled CRDI diesel engine that powers the rest of the Maxximo range. The fourth variant of the Maxximo range, the hard top mini van will be pitted against the Maruti Omni, which despite being more than a two and half decades old continues to be a big seller for Maruti. The Maxximo will also compete with the Eeco mini van, which is another product in Maruti’s range.
Armed with a capacity for 8 people, the Maxximo hard top mini van will rely on its 25 Bhp-55 Nm common rail turbo diesel engine to be its unique selling proposition as it is one of the least priced diesel mini vans in the country, at a price of INR 3.7 lakhs, ex-showroom Ahmedabad. The next cheapest diesel mini van in India is the much more powerful, 70 Bhp Tata Venture, which is priced at about INR 4 lakhs, ex-showroom, is something that will give stiff competition to the Maxximo hard top given that the Venture is much more powerful than the Maxximo, while also being a more grown up alternative in terms of interiors.
However, the Maxximo mini van would useits claimed fuel economy figure of 18-20 Kmpl being another big factor to drive sales. The Maxximo’s competition, the Maruti Omni is over a lakh rupees cheaper, but does not come with a diesel heart. However, the van is available with LPG and CNG options, which more than make up for the lack of a diesel engine, factors that have been serving Maruti and its Omni well for many years despite the growth in competition. The Eeco though, might find the going a little difficult given that it does have a diesel engine in its line up although it does come in petrol, petrol-LPG and petrol-CNG guises.
Also, the price of the Eeco is closer to the Maxximo and this is something that has to be kept in mind. Therefore, it would be the Tata Venture and the Maruti Eeco, which will be the main contenders that the Maxximo will have to overcome rather than the Omni. The Maxximo has been launched in Ahmedabad and will also be available in Jaipur shortly. The mini van will be launched across the nation in a phased manner in the coming months. Both BSIII and BSIV versions of the Maxximo mini hard top van are available.
