M&M Mini Xylo: New 5 Seater Model from Mahindra Coming in 2011

Mahindra & Mahindra is developing a smaller 5 seater version of their popular MUV Xylo. The car was caught undergoing hot weather testing in Rajasthan.

The car will be a tad smaller than its sibling Xylo and will be powered by an engine under 1.5L capacity to qualify for the tax redemption given to cars under 4 metres. It will use a smaller platform of the current body on frame construction of the Xylo and will have only two rows of seats which will accommodate 5 adults.

The car will be priced very competitively and is expected to hit the showrooms by 2011. This car will be a direct competitor to the only car in this sub 4 metre SUV segment – Premier Rio.

It is too early to say anything about pricing, but we expect it to be priced somewhere around 5-6 lakhs rupees range.

Nice & rightful attempt by Mahindras. I assume they will not do a half hearted work by which I mean they give everything the new segment desreves — not like the new Wagon-R & the Indica vista where lot of cabin space (more than actually required for the segment) is given at the cost of the luggage boot which is very essential for the customers for these category of vehicles.
horrible, they have just compressed Xylo, big mistake. In fact they should have compressed Scorpio by 12 inches in length and height , it would have turned out to be a sporty city and all terrain vehicle. I don’t know what will be the customer base for this dabba. All the best mahindra.
This mini Xylo must have petrol varient
– Many of my friends in the site are complaining of the odd look. But friend remember, the Swift Dezire or the Ritz (both from MUL). Both have horrible looks. But see they are the segment leaders.
– Hope Mahindras do the asthetics right. I feel they should take help of DC Design.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THE DECISION OF MINI XYLO , I JUST REQUEST MAHINDRA TO DO SAME WITH BOLERO WHICH WOULD GIVE GOOD MILEAGE IN CITY TRAFFIC AND PRICING IT AROUND 4 TO 5 LAKHS. I THINK THIS WOULD BE COMPETATIVE FOR SMALL CAR MAKERS.
I will appreciate if it can be a sleek model,so that in congested traffic it can come out faster.it shuuld have 8 seater capacity like ecko of MUL.

My reply to Mr. Alok Nath Ray —- My assumptions to your query are, the height may be less than the regular Xylo of 1895mm as Tyre specifications are expected to be lower. But width of 1850mm I presume will be retained, or else Mahindra will have to bear lot of costs on Tooling. 5 seater means, 4+1 (4 Passengers & 1 Driver) — 3 Passengers in the rear Bench seat and 1+1 Passenger + Driver in the front Bucket seats.
Stop mini xylo…This is too much…Xylo is a Premium version….Not for cheep..dont insult the xylo owners…
Looks is what M&M have to really work on. To me their last good looking vehicle was the Scorpio.
Tile will tell if they can better that and come up with designs that will be at par if not compete with the international brands.
Being a 7 seater the xylo looks too hight in suv’s, What about 5 seater.As they trimming length they should trim its height also.

I think mini xylo isn’t a bad idea, and will surely impress some segment. I would love see the same with best selling scorpio, where there will be many takers, especially in the urban area. Good luck MM. :shout:
very nice concept from mahindra… :) only real issue is that the Xylo is already a prety heavy car… just by taking out the rear seats, the weight may not come down drastically… and one less cylinder means further reduction in power.. lets c.. if priced at 5 – 6 lakhs its a steal anyway.. :)

( Now a days customers choice on more fuel eficient veicls ) The wheels are Aloy wheel or plain. AC should be climatic conrol with hot also. The price should within $,4.5 to $,5 Lakhs, then midle class people would purchase M&M Xylo & also it creats good market. When it comes to the Orissa market ?

Definitly it cost will be more than 10 lakhs.
The new Xylo should have accommodated more than 5. Only then, it wud look different from other models and serve the purpose also.

I would like to request you to launch a eight seater car in the range of up to five lacs. In which engine of the car should be out of body , not under the seat and door of the car should be like other eighter seater.when maruti can launch eight seater ecco car in the range of 2.50 lacs. But the body of this car is very poor. It would be a family car and people will like it

All the best for mahindra for this innovation but dont delay this project too long , players like Premier Rio are already notified their presence in the market, no doubt second time car purchaser are ur target market , but if you people are able to satisfy this new segment need some can b as follows-
1- Good sporty look.
2- 20 plus mileage in diesel
3- Engine shoul be less noisy and vibrating
4- interior shoul be best in class and comfortable
5- Ground clearance should be good keeping in mind rural roads.
6- If possible rear sat AC outlet should be there.
7- price 4-5 lakhs.
8- After sale service should be prompt.
9- It shoul be SUV in real sence not live ECCO or Wagon-r type.
10- If possible give 5 to 7 seat option.

Hallow M&M as the friend RAVIKANT PATHAK has mentioned the points , please keep in mind the engine power , milege(because of Indian fuel prices) Diesel engine availability. Looks and reduction in hight, Fairly good interiors, Comfortable AC, Music system.Driving dynamics, Reduction in size(That is length,width and height, ALMOST LIKE PREMIER RIO it is looking very good), Above all the price and after sales and service. Do not produce the vehicle in hurry then it will be a MINI DABBA . Take proper care in design and testing especially looks, size and engine power.Wishing you good luck , if it is a good one then I wish to buy one.

Hallow M&M Maruti introducing GYMNEY Mini SUV with 1.5Ltr diesel engine , So please think on to it for competition. If better engine with good power and milege you will have a winning edge over Maruti and Premier(Try to reduce the gross weight of the vehicle , which will help in better acceleration and gives good milege too).Many are expecting to have this kind of vehicle and they are looking for your MINI XYLO So do it well and have the benifit of exellent sales & many customers. Hi , this is really great. I saw the pictures of m&m Xylo mini(CS). looks great. It will be really a win win situation for M&M if the price of the SUV would not exceed more than 6 lakhs.Regarding the design it will be great if the height of the SUV is reduced or it will vibrate like zen estillo above 90km/ph.
And a suggestion for m&m pls don’t make the mistake which tata’s made by giving the same looks to tata estate and tata mobile, tata sierra……i m talking about the same face to its passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles….m&m genio should not bring down the market of xylo or xylo suv…..We indians are very different from europeans and westerners….I am keeping fingers crossed for the price i mentioned above for xylo mini…definitely i will go for it…
No doubt Mahindra going to shake the market with new auto concept.But they do consider that important aspect of SUV should be carried to it in terms of design, look and performance.
I was very impressed with Scorpio,Xylo and again with Mini Xylo and I was expecting a Mahindra & Mahidra a Car having a 4 zylinder diesel engine with a ground clearance of minimum of 180-190 mm
and a 5 seater,possibly a little bigger space
behind the rear seat.We will expect a very good car from Mahindra that will fill up the gap between a Car and a SUV.

Guys as per today’s news M&M will launch just before Diwali.The price will be some where close to 5 lakhs plus.The milege is below 20kpl. About the ride quality yet to be seen. Recently it is tested in Scandinavia for cold weather / icing condition performance.What is bothering is the M&M like other xylos want to keep 7 seater option, which again looks like taxywala option.
