Mahindra Verito sedan facelift spied

Less than a couple of summers have passed after Mahindra gave the Verito sedan a facelift, when the automaker took over the rights to manufacture and sell the Renault Logan in the Indian car market. Now, Mahindra has already begun working on the facelift of the Verito sedan even as work on the compact sedan version of the Verito is going on in full swing. The facelifted Verito could be a stop gap model to keep the product fresh, until the compact sedan version arrives to become the new family sedan from the Mahindra stable.

In the facelifted model, Mahindra is expected to give the Verito a new front end replete with a new grille. On the rear, the automaker will give the car new tail lamps. Apart from these changes that we’re able to discern from the spyshots of the Verito, the car is also expected to feature some other cosmetic changes. What remains unknown is whether Mahindra will change anything mechanically on the Verito. That seems unlikely as the Verito, essentially being a rebadged and restyled Renault Logan, is based on a platform that has been tried and tested for millions of kilometers across the globe.

From the time when Mahindra has been selling the Verito sedan, sales of this car have picked up on the back of Mahindra’s distribution and marketing muscle. The Verito is a preferred steed of choice in the cab operator segment, which has been enamored by this car’s low maintenance, high reliability, good fuel economy, spacious interiors and solid build quality. It isn’t uncommon to see diesel engined Veritos clocking in excess of 2 lakh kilometers and yet running well on Indian roads, a testament to the solid engineering behind this built-to-a-price product, originally conceived by Romanian car maker Dacia.

The Verito’s success has been in no less measure due to the 1.5 Liter K9K turbo diesel engine under its hood. This 65 Bhp-160 Nm engine is highly acclaimed for its linear power delivery with minimal turbo lag, making it an excellent drive in congested city conditions. The engine is also highly fuel efficient as it is in a  relaxed state of tune. An ideal mile muncher, this engine has been pivotal for the success of the Logan and now, the Verito in India. Expect the compact sedan version of the Verito to also feature this very engine.
