Maruti Suzuki A-Star Automatic anyone?

Maruti Suzuki A-Star

Maruti Suzuki A-Star

Maruti Suzuki A-Star: Peppy, high strung car that handles great but is strictly a car for two adults as the rear leg room is atrocious for bigger built folks. With the Maruti Alto offering more for less, we mean the leg room, the Maruti A-Star has been struggling at the hustings, by the usually lofty Maruti standards of course. According to word from an Indian auto forumer, Maruti Suzuki is mulling an automatic version of the A-Star to perk up dwindling sales and to attract more of the fairer sex towards the A-Star.

Also, an automatic transmission with optimized ratios could make the peaky A-Star a lot more driveable around town. Going by the limited success slush boxes have had in India, it doesn’t look like a move that might drastically change the A-Star’s fortunes overnight. But, Maruti never gives up without a tough fight, does it? All said, the slush box makes terrific sense in the madcap Indian traffic which is just getting madder by the day. The downsides for all these comforts will of course be the higher price and reduced fuel economy. Anyways, bring it on Maruti.

To say that an autobox will reduce fuel economy is so cliched and really just so old school.

These days the autoboxes are pretty fuel efficient. In some cases they are better at extracting mileage than stick shifts.

Auto boxes also have the added advantage that if ever a driver drives ur car, he cannot screw up the clutch etc.
