Hours ago, the CEO Marketing at Maruti Suzuki Limited, Mayan Pareek told the folks at CNBC TV18 that Maruti Suzuki will go ahead and launch yet another small car in the extremely crowded small car segment. The car which will be launched will feature the 67 Bhp, 1 liter K-Series engine, which is currently doing duty in the Maruti Suzuki A-Star. The new car, which has been unnamed for obvious reasons will debut in July-August 2010 and will carry a price tag of INR 2.75 to INR 3.25 Lakh.

Now, what hasn’t been specified is whether the price of the car is an ex showroom price or the on road price. We’re anticipating to be the ex-showroom price as this would mean that the new car will sit just above the 796cc Maruti Alto, which incidentally has ex showroom prices ranging from INR 2,28,000 to INR 2,77,000. On the higher end of the price spectrum, the new Maruti car will sit just beneath Maruti Suzuki A-Star, whose own ex-showroom prices begin at INR 3,50,000.

Keeping these factors in mind, we’re expecting the new Maruti Small Car to be in a price range between the Maruti Alto and the A-Star. Now, which car could Maruti possibly place in this narrow but very important price bracket currently dominated by the Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai Xing? This is a indeed a very tricky question to answer as the Suzuki Cervo for one could be the right fit at both the price and feature set level.

What gives some more credence to this argument is the fact that the Suzuki Cervo was scooped testing in India for quite a while. The Cervo while upstaging the Alto and the A-Star in terms of interior space could just prove to be the ideal option for families who find both the Alto and the more flashier A-Star too cramped for room. Coming to the second option that could possibly be launched at this price level, in contention, but only just is the slightly refreshed Maruti Alto with the 1 liter K-Series engine. This, however seems to be a long shot as Maruti has traditionally focused on the economy and the family car buyer rather than the enthusiast.

Also, the K-Series engine in the Alto’s engine bay isn’t a straight fit and would necessitate a complete redesign to the front end, naturally leading to higher costs. This simply might not be justified considering the cost to sales ratio that the 1 Liter Alto may have. Taking this factor and the fact that Maruti currently doesn’t have a contemporary, relatively spacious car in the 1 Liter engine segment to rival the Spark and the Santro Xing, the Suzuki Cervo it could be, which sees a launch in July-August. Hi all
as like all of us many people of india are waiting for cervo.
Now one thing see there is no big gap between regular alto and cervo as price concern and cervo has more feature than
alto. And cute look also goes in cervo favour.
So maruti will first stop selling regular alto then only they will bring cervo here but they are not ready to take risk.
So keep.dreaming and finger crossed.
