Maruti Suzuki to display MR Wagon and Palette Kei cars at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo for showgoer feedback!
Apart from the India certainties like the Ertiga MPV and the Maruti Suzuki compact SUV concept, Maruti is also planning to showcase the MR Wagon and Palette Kei cars at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. These cars are currently Japanese domestic models which are popularly known as Kei cars in Japan. Both cars intended mainly for city use feature three cylinder petrol engines that are highly fuel efficient.
Visually, these cars are eyesores as they are more like a mishmash of various Suzuki car models. On the practicality quotient though, these cars ight rank quite high. The MR Wagon features a 657cc, three port petrol engine bearing model number R06A, available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged form. The naturally aspirated engine produces 54 Bhp-64Nm while the turbo charged version produces 60 Bhp-97 Nm.
From the power-torque figures, it is evident that the turbo boosts both power and torque while keeping fuel economy also quite high. The Palette uses the same 657cc, three pot engine producing 54 Bhp and 64 Nm. Power and torque transmission is by means of a four speed automatic gearbox. Coming to the fuel economy figures of both cars, over 22 Kmpl is what is claimed by Suzuki under Japanese conditions. Both cars weigh well under 1,000 kilograms.
The major reason behind Maruti Suzuki bringing these two cars to the Indian Auto Expo is to take showgoer feedback. Based on the feedback, Maruti might bring these cars in India in the coming years. If Maruti Suzuki does bring these cars to India, they will be the smallest displacement Marutis ever sold in India. Both these cars will be four seaters at best. Going by the specifications and size of these cars, expect a price tag of under 3 Lakh rupees as these cars are intended mainly use in the city. If you’re heading to the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, watch out for these cars at the Maruti Suzuki stall.
