Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Baleno RS to Now Launch in 2017

Both cars were earlier slated for a launch around the festive season this year, however, seeing the consistent waiting periods for its recently launched compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno hatchback, this strategic decision might be the resort from the situation.

Maruti Suzuki might now introduce the cars in the January-March time line in the year 2017.

Maruti had showcased both the cars at this year’s Auto-Expo, which was held in February and while the Ignis is going to be an entirely new product, the Baleno RS is a higher powered version of the hugely popular Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback, which is already on sale in the country.

The Ignis sports a crossover design, but will essentially play in the B+ hatchback segment. The car has a tall-boy stance and has styling elements, like flared wheel arches, a steeply raked rear portion and a healthy amount of ground clearance. It also gets projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, a mean looking grille and a heavy looking front bumper.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will supposedly be offered only in a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine form, which is a turbocharged petrol motor and will develop 100 BHP of peak power. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an automatic transmission unit would also be on offer.

Maruti might also bring in a diesel engine option for the car at a later stage. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS on the other hand was also displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo and the the car sports the same 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol motor talked above. The car will also feature Minot other changes like differently styled allow wheels over the regular version of the hatchback, and a new body kit on the outside.

Once introduced, both cars will be retailed through Maruti’s premium sales channel, NEXA.
