Maruti Suzuki has launched the Sting Ray model, which is a more stylish version of the bread box-like WagonR hatchback that Indians buy in droves. Maruti Suzuki manages to sell about 12,000 units of the WagonR each month in India, a testament to the Tall Boy car’s immense practicality, cheap running costs and affordable price.
With the Sting Ray model, Maruti Suzuki will aim at style conscious buyers who want something more than just practicality. The Sting Ray model of the WagonR is priced at 4.10 lakh rupees ex-showroom Delhi for the LXi variant. The VXi variant sells for 4.48 lakhs, while the VXi with the option pack (ABS+EBD and Driver Side Airbag) will set you back by 4.67 lakhs.
The Sting Ray model of the WagonR’s USP is its styling. The car gets projector headlamps, a first in class feature, all black interiors, a new front grille, sporty front bumper, new tail lamps, rear spoiler, and chrome trim on the hatch boldly announcing the Sting Ray name of the car.On the inside, the instrumentation console gets blue back light finish. The car’s engine and transmission units remain unchanged. The car gets a 1 liter K-Series petrol engine that pumps out 67 Bhp and 90 Nm. This engine is the same unit that does duty on the standard WagonR. The gearbox is a five speed manual unit.
CNG and LPG options are not available on the Sting Ray model. However, these options continue on the standard WagonR hatchback. The petrol engine comes with an ARAI certified mileage figure of 20.51 Kmpl. On the practicality front, the Sting Ray model gets 60:40 rear seats, the Tall Boy design, passenger seat under tray and a seating position that’s higher than most budget hatchbacks.
Tilt steering, one touch power window for the driver and power assist for all four windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear wiper and defogger, multi information display, stereo player with USB and AUX, ABS+EBD and driver side airbag are the other features available on the top end version of the Sting Ray WagonR hatchback.
