Mercedes Benz E-Class gets a pair of new petrol engines
Mercedes Benz has just revised the E-Class range in Europe. The revisions include a new pair of petrol engines that are powerful as well as fuel efficient compared to the old powerplants. We had earlier reported about the German auto makers plans to introduce the S300L with a highly efficient 3.0 litre V6 in India.
Certainly, Mercedes Benz seems to be on a mission to revise its portfolio in India. In Europe, the company has come up with two new engines for the E-Class sedan. The E350 and E500 now get more powerful and efficient engine. The old 3.5 litre V6 is now replaced with a new 302 bhp version with similar capacity. The 5.5 litre unit in the E500 has been dumped for a more efficient 4.6 litre, twin-turbocharged V8.
Power from the V8 is now up from 382 bhp to 402 bhp torque has also gone up to 443 lb-ft. Both models now come with start-stop and a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. As a result, fuel consumption of the E500 has gone down by 17 percent. Mercedes Benz India has embarked on an aggressive strategy lately with announcements made about new models to compete with the current segment leader, BMW.
At present, the E350 in India has a 3.5 litre V6 that churns out 272 bhp. We could see a new India specific engine making into the E350 in the near future given that the automaker is currently busy overhauling its range of cars in the country.
