Mercedes Benz C Class: Two new powerplants in the offing
2010 Mercedes Benz C Class
When BMW India played hardball and brought in the delectable 3 liter, straight six petrol for the BMW 3 Series 330i Sedan, we were pretty sure that Mercedes Benz will make a few moves to tug at the purse strings of hard core petrol heads.
So, here we go, the baby Merc will get a 1,796cc turbo petrol engine good for 183 horses, direct injection makes it to this petrol engine and along with that, the Blue Efficiency engine can run on lean burn cycle in cruise mode. So, the 250CGI will actually reward you with 10% more fuel efficiency for a light right foot and once that light right foot gets waltzing, the engine will start crooning a 183 horse symphony.
Mercedes Benz India will launch the Mercedes Benz C Class 250CGI on May 13th, 2010 for INR 34.97 Lakh, on road, Mumbai. A new diesel engine will follow in July. The engine in question is the 250CDI motor from the E Class that generates about 201 Bhp and a tyre shredding 510 Newton meters of twist force. With this engine, the baby Merc will be able to eat the BMW 320d for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
But like all good things in life come with a price, the Diesel engine will be substantially more costlier than the BMW 320d and this is something that might not work in Mercedes Benz’s favor.
That said, we’re pleased to see Mercedes Benz and BMW India slugging it out for top honors and for you the customer, this only means one thing, more choice that competition always brings to the table.
