Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI low-cost saloon car coming next month?
Mercedes Benz E-Class Sedan
Mercedes-Benz might launch a low-cost saloon based on the new E-Class. What we are hearing is that the new car in Elegance trim could be available by next month. Mercedes-Benz seems to have started rolling the dice as it takes the fight up to BMW who have been leading the luxury segment for quite a while now. Mercedes-Benz has been pretty aggressive with its product strategy in recent times and has lined-up a few products aimed at reviving the brands position in the market.
The car maker will launch the E220 CDI which will be priced below the present entry-level E-Class that is, the E250 CDI. The E220 CDI is expected to undercut the E250 CDI Elegance by as much as Rs 2.2 lakh. The E250 CDI Elegance costs around Rs 42.2 lakh ex-showroom hence, we expect the base E220 CDI Elegance to be priced in the range of Rs 40 lakh ex-showroom. Also could this mean that Mercedes-Benz is going to dump the E250 CDI Classic? Any which way, they might launch an E220 CDI Classic later which could be priced more competitively.

BMW F10 520D Sedan
The main rival of the E-Class has been the BMW 5-Series and by launching the E220 CDI, Mercedes-Benz will be hoping to take on the BMW 520d which is BMW’s low-cost 5er. The power from the inline-4 cylinder diesel engine remains the same with just the torque dropping to 400 Nm @ 1400 rpm. So basically, it is the same engine just with a different tune. The strategy adopted by the German car maker is clear then, Mercedes-Benz are desperate to get back to the top by launching new products that are expected to bring volumes.
