General Motors India has given an upgrade to the Beat hatchback. Globally known as the Spark, the car is the called the Chevrolet Beat in India. The car gets a mild refresh to its interiors. The Beat is now available with silver inserts on the dashboard and height adjust feature for the driver seat.
None of the GM hatchbacks in India have had height adjustable seats and that makes the Beat a welcome exception. The Beat was first showcased to world in the movie Transformers and soon after that the car made its way into India. The Chevrolet Beat is expected to get a full makeover early next year. We could see a fully refreshed Beat at the 2014 Auto Expo.
New features on the Beat also include new fabric design on seats. The Beat is the first car in India to come with 936cc-3 cylinder turbo diesel engine, which is derived from the 1.3 Fiat Multijet motor. This engine produces 58 Bhp of power and 150 Nm of torque.
The petrol variant of car comes with a 1.2 liter engine that produces 80 bhp and 108 Nm of torque. The Beat Diesel’s fuel efficiency is a class topping 25.44 Kmpl. Chevrolet has also introduced an LPG version of the Beat that can run on petrol too.
To boost sales of the Beat, Chevrolet has come up with a limited period offer on the Beat. The car’s petrol variant starts from 3.39 lakh, LPG variant starts from 4.47 lakh and diesel variant starts from 4.73 lakh (ex showroom Delhi).
This price cut from Chevrolet could have to do with Nissan launching the Micra Active, a cheaper version of the pre-facelift Micra hatchback. Since the Micra competes directly with the Chevrolet Beat, a price cut for the Beat in the form of the Limited Period Offer has been effected. God bless competition!
