The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback could be Mitsubishi’s India bound small car!
A small car is what Mitsubishi India desperately needs if it wants to dig itself out of the morass it is currently into. Next month’s Tokyo Motor Show will have an interesting reveal by Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi, of that of the Mirage global hatchback. Here’s why we think that this is the car that Mitsubishi might bring to India in 2012 or beyond.
Earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, Mitsubishi released a sketch of its upcoming global small car. By the looks of it, the Mitsubishi Mirage looks strikingly similar to the global small car concept that Mitsubishi showed us back then. Therefore, there’s a very fat chance that the Mirage is the car that Mitsubishi will bring to India in 2012 or beyond.
The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback will first go on sale in the Thailand market in March 2012, after which it could see a Japanese home market launch in the middle of 2012. Given that the Mitsubishi Colt will bow out of Mitsubishi’s line up sometime next year, the Mirage is expected to fill the Colt’s shoes in all markets that the Colt used to sell thus far.
Mitsubishi had announced a range of two engines for the Mirage, both three cylinder petrol powered units in capacities of 1 liter and 1.2 liters. A CVT transmission was also to be in the scheme of things and from the images of the Mirage we have with us, Mitsubishi has indeed endowed the Mirage hatchback with an automatic transmission.
A start-stop system to maximize mileage and minimize emissions, regenerative braking to keep the battery juiced up without putting load on the alternator thus saving fuel, low friction engine parts and light weight materials is what Mitsubishi will use to make the Mirage a very fuel efficient car. An electric version of the Mirage is also on its way for global markets.

Hello
The Car looks Nice!! Reminds me of Hyundai i20!!
But they should launch the car in Diesel to make some Sale volumes.
Very soon petrol will be touching RS100 per litre and it will be very tough for petrol cars to survive
I feel that this is a very important product for Mitsubishi in India if its launched with a sub 5 lakhs price tag to compete in the B+ segment. And Mitsubishi should really bring this as early as possible to India before other companies eat up the market with their soon to be launched models. Coz to be frank, if you want to be a Global Company, you will need to have a presence in the Indian automobile market with Global products. And wot better product to launch in India, than a A and B segment vehicle.
With respect to the Mirage, I do find it a tad similar to the Hyundai i20, however I like the rear of this Mirage much more than the i20.
I agree with the previous remarks that it remarkably resembles Hyundai i20. Most importantly, if they don’t support it well with good sales/service network, they will suffer the same fate as that of Fiat in India. Currently, the ever increasing petrol prices is resulting in buyer’s shift to diesel cars.
Iam interested in buying mitsubishi mirage
