Mitsubishi teases us before Geneva; Are we looking at the 2013 Outlander Crossover?
Mitsubishi has revealed at teaser image, an image that looks strikingly similar to the PX-MiEV electric crossover concept that the Japanese automaker revealed a few months ago at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. This image coming weeks before the 2012 Geneva Motor Show means that Mitsubishi might be close to a big launch or showcase event at the upcoming motor show, one of the more important ones amongst the number of auto shows that happens around the year. From what we’re seeing, our money is on the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover, a car that is said to share plenty of design DNA from the PX-MiEV concept.
The 2013 Outlander is expected to be a hybrid version, a path that Mitsubishi is increasingly taking to in a bid to lift its fortunes, which has been dipping steadily over the past few years with many products not selling as well as the automaker would have hoped it would have. Electric car and hybrid technology figures amongst the big plans that Mitsubishi is putting together for the future, so much so that he iconic Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution-X ‘s successor could be back in a diesel hybrid form, something that has rubbed most Lancer purists the wrong way.
Mitsubishi though, isn’t leaving any stone unturned in its firm focus on electric and hybrid car technology as evidenced by the hybrid version of the Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback, called the i-MiEV. Coming to the Indian end of the story, if indeed Mitsubishi unveils the 2013 Outlander at Geneva, expect the car to come to Indian shores sometime in the future as Mitsubishi does sell the Outlander here. The next launch from Mitsubishi for the Indian market though, will be the Pajero Sport, a car that has been delayed for quite long now. The Pajero Sport SUV is expected to be launched over the next couple of months.
