BMW has announced that it will launch the 2018 BMW X3 in India on April 19, 2018. The all-new BMW X3 had its Indian debut at Auto Expo 2018 last month.
The silhouette of the luxury SUV is very similar to the outgoing model. However, the rear now features differently designed ‘L-shaped’ tail-lamps, while the front sports a larger kidney grille and the headlamps are spaced further apart.
Thanks to the new underpinnings, the third-gen model possesses a significantly stiffer chassis and is about 55kg lighter than its predecessor. While it retains the same overall dimensions, the wheelbase on the new model is longer, which is expected to liberate more space inside.
Under the hood, the new model is expected to initially be offered with the 190hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel in the X3 xDrive20d – which is shared with the current model – and a 248 BHP, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol in the xDrive30i. A 265 BHP, 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel in the xDrive30d and a 360 BHP, 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol motor in the M40i (rivaling the Merc-AMG GLC 43 coupé in India on power and price) are expected to arrive at a later date, though there is no confirmation on the latter engine. All engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic, powering all four wheels, as standard.
The 2018 BMW X3 features adaptive LED headlights, LED fog lamps, Kidney Grille with active air flap control, 18- to 21-inch alloy wheels, LED rear lights and twin exhaust tailpipes on the outside. The technology in the cabin has been updated as well, with equipment taken off the new 5-series. This includes a touch-and-gesture-controlled iDrive infotainment system, a head-up display, and 360-degree cameras. Adaptive dampers are also expected to be available.
The 2018 BMW X3’s prices could start at around INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom). The all-new BMW X3 will compete with the Audi Q5, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Mercedes GLC, and Volvo XC60.
