Party Pooper: Diesel heart doubtful for the Hyundai i10

Here is a dampener that will disappoint sticky fuel fans. Hyundai India is contemplating a shelving of the technology laden three pot diesel that they once intended to outfit the current generation Hyundai i10 with.

We were extremely enthused with news of the three pot common rail turbo diesel as this engine was touted to displace a tiny 800cc while still managing to generate a stunning 90Bhp.

For now, Hyundai India simply might not make this engine because of the prohibitive costs associated with making one. Also, the presence of price warriors such as the ultra competitive Ford Figo Diesel obviously seems to have rattled a few nerves.

It seems that Hyundai India’s past experience with the overpriced i20 has taught it a thing or two about India’s everlasting tryst with the value for money equation.

Good news for them and their bottom line, bad news for diesel heads.

Whats the source of this info?

    Umesh,

The source is AutocarIndia and we’ve listed it at the bottom of the article. The Hyundai i10 will get a diesel, but only in it’s second iteration in 2013.

    Cheers,

    Jay
