Frugalanomics: Maruti WagonR LPG Duo Relaunched

Indians like to eat rich but somehow they always seem to hate their cars outdoing them in the hog stakes. Hence, the omnipresent question at every darn traffic signal you pull up at, in your showy set of wheels: average kya hai? Show us something, we’ll show you how we can make it in the least expensive way keeping a fair tab on the big word called quality. Hence, it is small wonder that India is the place to be for making cars and making them frugally.

When Maruti launched the all new WagonR a while ago, more than a few folks were a harried lot. Now, why will folks get ticked off when they are getting a brand new bread box to replace the older, very practical bread box? One simple answer. When Maruti launched the all new WagonR, it discontinued the LPG option in the older WagonR. Add fuel to the fire, the liquid gold prices have marched north steadily, much to the chagrin of the man on the street, in other words the typical LPG WagonR buyer.

So, every day we were swamped with comments from the harried lot who wanted the LPG option back in the WagonR. Maruti takes plenty of pride in being attuned to the needs of it’s customers. Here is a telling example of the same. Put your hands together, ladies and gentlemen. Maruti Suzuki Limited has recommenced the sale of the old WagonR in LPG(Duo) guise.

While the naysayers will make faces and call this move a retrograde one, we feel that Maruti has got it absolutely spot on as the WagonR Duo was contributing close to a fifth of all WagonR sales. In absolute terms, that is about 2000-2500 units a month and that is certainly not a number to be scoffed at. So, the WagonR Duo should be available at your local Maruti dealer even as we’re publishing this. So, if you want one in your garage, you know what to do. Meanwhile, the rest of the folks wanting the all new WagonR in Duo guise will have to wait for close to a year more.
