New video/spyshots of the 2013 Honda Brio Diesel small car emerge
The Honda Brio diesel has been caught yet again, and this time, it is an ICB reader Ronish Khosravi who has sent us these images and the video of the car doing the testing rounds. Like in the earlier video we brought to you yesterday, the latest video also clearly indicates that the car being tested in a diesel version, mainly due to the prominent clatter it produces. The Brio diesel is expected to be launched sometime in 2013, even as Honda is expected to launch the automatic version of the hatchback later this year as such a variant already exists in the Thai market currently.
The very pronounced clatter that the diesel engine of the Brio is producing is a dead giveaway about the engine option under the Brio’s hood. The Brio could use a three cylinder, 1.2 Liter turbo diesel engine, that is a downsized version of the 1.6 Liter i-DTEC unit that Honda recently unveiled as a part of its new range of EarthDreams turbo diesel engines. The Brio diesel that has been snapped up has been de-badged although the car has not been camouflaged. However, the second video of the Brio diesel surfacing less than a day after the first video broke cover, replete with diesel clatter, only gives credence to the theory of a diesel engine nestling under the Brio’s hood.
Honda, for its part, has kept mum about a diesel engined Brio although the automaker has indicated that its car models will get diesel engined in he coming years. However, with the testing of the Brio diesel already happening in full swing, it is just a matter of time before the hatchback with a turbo diesel heart is launched in India. Currently, the Brio uses a 1.2 Liter petrol engine that is borrowed from the Honda Jazz. The 1.2 Liter i-VTEC petrol engine puts out about 90 Bhp of peak power, making the light weight Brio a very sprightly car.
The car has gone on to become the highest selling model in Honda’s Indian range, with the competitive pricing at which it was launched, being a major factor that has driven sales. With the possible arrival of the Brio diesel , expect volumes to more than double. In due course of time, more Honda cars such as the Jazz and the City are expected to be offered with turbo diesel engines.
