Next-Gen Kia Picanto Unveiled; India Launch Possible!

Korean carmaker and a subsidiary of Korean automotive giant, Hyundai, Kia unveiled the latest version of its popular small car, the Kia Picanto.

The Picanto is one of Kia’s best selling small offerings and has a huge popularity in various markets in the European region.

The all-new Kia Picanto is the car’s third generation and could also be one of the entry-level models for the brand as it makes way into the Indian market, in a couple of years’ time from now.

The Picanto is in the same league as the immensely popular global hatchback from its parent company, the Hyundai Grand i10. The new Picanto becomes a lot more bolder in its overall design and styling and gets contemporary elements like projector headlamps and LED DRLs as well.

On the inside, the car again has a very modern layout and feel to the cabin, with contrasting use of colors and a touch screen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard.

Kia is expected to arrive in the Indian market by the year 2019 and might get similar engine options as there are available on the Grand i10 currently on offer in the Indian market. Kia and Hyundai together form the 5th largest automotive conglomerate in the world and have an aggressive growth plan to keep rising up the ladder with time.

Kia is looking at Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra as the major possible options to set up a plant. There is no clarity over what models it would be producing in its factory in India. The company ais  to finalize the location of the plant by next month and make an official announcement in September.

The new manufacturing facility is expected to be a state-of-the-art unit with highly automated processes being deployed for high precision manufacturing of cars. The plant could boast of an annual capacity of 3,00,000 units at the onset and will go live into production by 2019.
