Next generation 2015 Volkswagen Touareg could spawn a CC coupe like crossover to take on the BMW X6 and Audi Q6

SUV to crossover. That is something that is a big possibility with a new variant of the next generation Volkswagen Tuoareg that could debut in 2015. Dubbed the Tuoareg CC, the crossover is expected to have a coupe like roofline, to challenge the likes of the BMW X6 and the upcoming Audi Q6. All along, the Volkswagen Touareg, which shares the PL71 platform with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7 has been an out and out SUV. But the line between the traditional SUV and the crossover is blurring rapidly with more SUVs crossing over, pun definitely intended, into crossover territory.

Volkswagen, it seems wants the best of both worlds, in that, it might produce two variants of the next generation Touareg, with an SUV variant wit high ground clearance and off road ability for the off roading enthusaists while the CC crossover version will take care of demand emerging from folks wanting a sharper handling, lower slung crossover. The next generation Volkswagen Touareg is anticipated to be based on the MLB platform, that a range of Volkswagen group car brands will use as a shared platform, giving them parts sharing and common production unit advantages.

The same MLB platform could also underpin the 2015 Touareg CC crossover, given that a wide range of Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley crososvers will be built on this platform. This platform comes with a capability of supporting both front wheel drive and all wheel drive drive cars. As has been the case always, expect both petrol and diesel engines, albeit with forced induction as standard, to power the next generation Touareg SUV and CC Crossover. Considering that the Indian market already plays host to the Touareg SUV, expect the next generation model to also arrive into the country in due course of time.

However, it remains uncertain whether the 2015 Touareg CC Crossover will also see an Indian launch as Volkswagen remains a fringe player in the 20 lakh plus segment with most of its cars, like the Passat, Beetle Touareg and the Phaeton being more of brand builders than cars that give competition to the Audis, BMWs and Mercedes Benzs of this world. Keeping these factors in mind, the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg, it seems might be targeted at international markets, where the Touareg is already a strong seller, than the Indian car market.
