Weeks ago, a new report carried by TheTimesOfIndia stated that the Nissan Evalia based Ashok Leyland Stile MPV would be launched in India by the end of 2013. Now, a new report emerging on AutoCarPro goes on to put a launch date in front of the Ashok Leyland Stile, a date that has caught us by surprise. AutoCarPro states that the 2013 Ashok Leyland Stile MPV will be launched in India on the 16th of July 2013, just about two months from now. The Stile MPV will be a lesser priced, rebadged and restyled variant of the Nissan Evalia. Built by Ashok Leyland, the Stile MPV is expected to cater mainly to cab operators and transporters, as a cut price rebadged version of the Evalia.
The Ashok Leyland Stile MPV is expected to share its engine with the Nissan Evalia, in that the 1.5 Liter K9K turbo diesel motor outputting 85 Bhp-200 Nm is expected to be carried over from the Evalia. The engine could be mated to a five speed manual gearbox, driving the front wheels of the MPV. Expect stripped out interiors on the Stile MPV given the projected positioning of the MPV as a commercial people mover. So, the Stile could lose fair share of creature comforts for Ashok Leyland to arrive at a competitive price tag.
Apart from diesel power, Ashok Leyland has plans of launching the Stile MPV with a CNG powered dual fuel engine. The CNG powered variant of the Stile MPV is expected to be a urban transport solution as a cab and a delivery van. The Nissan Evalia has found very few takers in the Indian car market despite the MPV being extremely easy to drive and versatile. Perhaps, the pricing of the Evalia is where Nissan India skewed the equation for the MPV. It’ll be interesting to see how the Ashok Leyland Stile does considering that it could be priced significantly lower than the Evalia.
